Analysis: The Godfather opening

Editing:

In this film opening there is only one type of transition. This type of transition is a fade. It happens after each picture or title that is shown, it is either from black to the image or from the image to black.  The only other editing that really stands out is the computer animations which are present when some of the images fly onto the screen and flip over and writing appears on them as if someone is using a pen. These animations are not like a cartoon would be done. These animations are made to look like they are real images that are blowing around in the wind.

Camera shots:

There aren't any camera shots used like there would be during the actual film. Although there are different camera shots used in the images that are shown on the screen. For example the first image is  a Medium Long shot of people walking in the street. The next image shows a Medium shot of a family in their home. The third image is of a Close up as it is a mug shot, this carries on through out the opening and it changes between the different camera shots.

Sound:

There is classical, cheerful music playing in the background. This music makes the audience think that the story behind the film is based in an older setting than a modern story would be. The music stays the same during the film opening and doesn't change at any point.

Titles:

The titles come on to an empty screen. When they do this they fade on and fade off. Other than the titles at the beginning and end of the opening all of the titles appear with an image. The titles only appear in two ways, they either appear on a mug shot and fade out a second after the image or they are written on the back of one of the flying photos. All of the titles are in black and white and none stands out. Except from the film title at the end.
